Aquarium de Lyon

Lyon, France

A full-room immersive projection experience that transports visitors into open-ocean environments — across 300 m² of synchronised walls and floor.

The Challenge

Aquarium de Lyon wanted to extend the visitor experience beyond its live-animal exhibits — reaching marine environments and species that the aquarium does not and will not house in captivity. The brief called for a dedicated room that could operate daily for families, school groups and general visitors, with no visible hardware and reliable enough for unattended public use after handover.

The Insight

TRISON designed Ocean 360 as a continuous projected canvas across five walls and the floor of a dedicated room, with synchronised audio throughout. As a result, the integration addressed the room’s irregular geometry to deliver a seamless immersive environment across more than 300 m². Furthermore, the system is operable daily by aquarium staff without specialist AV expertise.

A Geometry-Driven Projection System

The room’s pentagonal footprint required a purpose-built integration approach. Walls span up to 5.7 metres, with a non-uniform floor level across the full surface. Multiple laser projectors were ceiling-mounted with ultra-short-throw optics across six surfaces. The result is a full-room immersive projection experience covering more than 300 m² — without visible seams or digital keystone correction. Content plays back frame-accurate across all surfaces simultaneously through a redundant media-server architecture.

Designed for Daily Public Operation

Ocean 360 operates as a permanent installation open to the full visitor programme at Aquarium de Lyon —including school groups, families and educational sessions. The immersive projection experience is managed through a tablet-based interface that allows aquarium staff to start, stop and switch shows without AV expertise. The control layer uses networked audio with ceiling and pendant speakers plus subwoofers for low-frequency reinforcement. All systems are housed in a centralised rack with remote power management, minimising the need for on-site technical intervention.
