Commerz Real

Berlin, Germany

A 180 m² LED facade integrated across a building corner in Berlin’s retail district, combining digital content display with architectural transparency.

The Challenge

The project required integrating a large-format LED facade directly above an adidas flagship store on Tauentzienstraße, one of Berlin’s busiest retail streets. The installation had to wrap across a building corner and work within the existing structure — while allowing natural light to pass through without compromising the display’s visibility from street level.

The Insight

TRISON Germany designed and installed two LED walls covering a combined area of over 180 m², using semi-transparent LED modules that allow light transmission while maintaining digital content visibility. The entire structure is mounted on aluminium trusses, integrating the display system into the building facade as a permanent architectural element.

A Facade That Works in Both Directions

The LED modules used in this project are semi-transparent, with a pixel pitch of 15.6 mm. This specification allows natural light to pass through the facade during the day. At the same time, the display delivers high-visibility digital content from street level. This dual function was essential for a building that remains operational and occupied. As a result, the architectural character of the glazed facade is preserved without blocking interior spaces.

Structural Integration Across a Building Corner

The main LED wall spans 22 metres wide and 6 metres high — a total of 132 m². Consequently, it extends continuously across the building corner, which is the most technically complex point of the installation. A second LED wall of 48 m² completes the facade coverage. Both walls are mounted on a custom aluminium truss construction. This structure allows the LED system to follow the building’s geometry without modifying the existing facade. The result is a permanent digital advertising surface fully integrated into the exterior.
